News & Notes (& Measurement Olympics)

Good evening!

The last two weeks have gone by in a blur!  We've moved from a measurement unit on to a money unit in math, begun preparing for our class field trip, and started the final unit of Language Arts for the year.  Can you believe that there is only about a month left of school?!  Another year will have come and gone before you know it.

Please keep in mind the following two events, both on Monday, May 4 (yes, it will be a busy day!):

- The class field trip to the Museum School will be from approximately 9:40-1:45.  Parents who have volunteered to chaperone will receive a more detailed email from me.

- The Spring Program will begin at 7pm.  Students should report to their seats no later than 6:50 that evening.

--- Also please note that this Friday students will be dismissed at 12:30 due to an afternoon staff development meeting.

A Peek At Our Week:

- Bible --- Students will be completing their skits of the miracles of Jesus and begin learning about following Jesus and His call on our lives to care for others.

- Language Arts --- We will be analyzing an author's purpose for writing a given text, identifying and using adjectives to enhance our writing, and tying it all together using a desert themed week.  Students will begin writing "All About Books" during Writer's Workshop.

- Math --- Students will use calculators to add money amounts together and study dollars and cents notation for writing money amounts.

- Social Studies --- We will learn about the various regions of the United States and learn the basic parts of a map.

Here are a few photos of the Measurement Olympics we held as a culminating activity to our measurement unit for math.  Enjoy!
